Original Buffalo Wings

I'm a sucker for good wings. I'm not picky, per say, I like them spicy, mild, tangy, smokey and zingy. But they have to be good; good flavor, crisp on the outside and still juicy on the inside. Please make your own sauce, don't serve me "Sysco's Wing Sauce."

Original Buffalo Wings, in San Mateo, is a hole-in-the-wall in the downtown district. Very plain on the inside. This isn't a deciding factor, I've been to some great hole-in-the-wall places. Sadly, this wasn't one of them. They have a pretty wide selection on their menu: Wings, Burgers, Salads, Sandwiches, and even Vegetarian options.

We decided on the Bucket o' Wings (50 wings and 2 large sides). We split the sauce between Spicy and BBQ. Little did we know their spicy is bland compared to Tobasco Sauce. Our two sides? French Fries and Large Chips. The Large Chips are homemade potato chips, sliced thick and fried. They were the best part of the meal. There was an disproportionate amount of wings to drumettes (9 to 1). There are an equal amount on the chicken, why wasn't their an equal amount in my order.

Oh wait, we ordered appetizers too, fried mushrooms and jalapeƱo poppers. I didn't try the mushrooms, I left those for the guys. I tried the poppers. I'm a sucker for cream cheese stuffed jalapeƱos. These didn't live up to the expectation, let's just say that the oil in that fryer was definitely old.

Needless to say, I was disappointed and apologized to the guys for suggesting this place.
