In the middle of downtown Woodland, California sits The Burger Saloon (TBS). You get the feel of an old western saloon that's been spruced up just a bit when you walk up the slight incline to the hostess stand. Along the left side of the main dining room is a well-stocked bar; everything needed to make your favorite adult beverage. The burger section of their menu takes up the whole right page and is divided into two main sections "House Recommendations" or "Build Your Own" and in addition to those, you have your choice of meats and buns. Don't ask for substations on the House Recommendations, just build your own if you want to tweak it.
Being a sucker for bleu cheese and caramelized onions I chose their Black and Bleu, cooked medium. As described: Cajun blackened seasoning, bleu cheese [crumbles], caramelized onion relish, oven-roasted tomatoes and a spicy aioli, I also chose the hand-pressed certified angus beef patty and a brioche bun. Just a heads up, their burgers are à la carte. You need to order your side if you like an accompaniment. I was having lunch with my Mom and she wanted to get their sweet potato fries, a full order. We could have gotten away with a small order, the full order is huge.
For a mid-week lunch and not being packed, it seemed to take longer that what it should have, but it was worth the wait. The burger was cooked to perfection and the the topping added to the natural beef flavor, without masking. The bleu cheese melted and mixed with the spicy aioli and what dripped off turned into a sauce for my sweet potato fries.
My mouth is watering as I write this. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Woodland and The Burger Saloon.
